Rural France

Rural Retreat is situated on the edge of Confolens, a small town in South West France. There is plenty to do locally if you enjoy as quiet, relaxing holiday walking and exploring.

Please note that rural France does not have a buzzing nightlife, shops open 24/7 or streets of pavement cafes and restaurants. Life ambles along at a slow, gentle pace – that’s why we love it!

Shops are not open on a Sunday and many places also close on a Monday. If you are arriving on a Sunday please do let us know in advance if you need anything from the supermarket for your first night.

On a practical note there is NO public transport system in rural France. If you would like to explore further afield and flying in to Limoges, then we recommend hiring a car from the airport.

Facilities

Rural Retreat France is a group residential facility. We do not have a swimming pool, hot tub or satellite TV, but we do have extensive resources in our library, patios, lovely gardens with seating areas, summerhouse and decking and a built in barbecue and pizza oven for everyone to enjoy.

General

Rural Retreat France is the home of Sue and Joe (and pets) and we welcome everyone to share the site, facilities, gardens, wonderful skies and weather of South West France.

We endeavor to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and ask that you respect our privacy and the enjoyment of other guests who may be staying. We are a child free, quiet site especially set up for groups to use our centre throughout the day and night. We are a sociable community with up to 10 guests on site each day and want all our guests to enjoy their stay.

Whilst we anticipate many of our visitors will wish to enjoy our fine French wines during their stay, we do not tolerate drunken or loud, aggressive behaviour, abuse or unpleasant language. Rural Retreat is a place for everyone, including those travelling alone and a place of peace, tranquility and safety.

If you are unsure about any aspect of your planned visit, please email sue@ruralretreatfrance.com who will answer all your questions.

Accommodation

The Dortoir accommodation & two wet-rooms are a shared facility. There are privacy curtains on each bed , lockable showers & an additional private changing area. We provide a towelling robe for each guest & ask that you bring appropriate sleepwear.

Please note that we do have a variety of animals on the farm & whilst they are not allowed in guest areas, we cannot guarantee completely allergen free rooms. Because of our livestock, we are unable to accept guest’s pets on site.

All inside & outside rooms are strictly non-smoking. There is a smoking area with bins for safe disposal of cigarette ends & due to the risk of fire in our dry climate, smoking is only permitted in this area.

Meals

A continental breakfast and vegetarian dinner are included in your price. A self-catering kitchen is available to prepare snacks and lunches and has facilities to store your own food. Please note that we do not provide or sell alcohol. You are, however, welcome to buy drinks from the local supermarket.

Cancellation

Due to the demand on beds, we are unable to refund any deposits paid. We strongly suggest that you take out travel insurance to cover any cancellations. We will however, honour all payments for alternative dates, as agreed between us. You are very welcome to swop the name on the booking should you wish or gift your booking at no additional cost.

In the event of the unavoidable, necessary cancellation of a tutor, any payment for a tutor will be refunded. Your accommodation booking will remain valid & we will work to replace the tutor for your visit & to arrange activities to suit the group. Your option to move your booking to an alternative date remains unaffected.
