Where will I be staying?
Our 8 bed residential retreat is set in over 2 hectares of French farmland, in Confolens, Charente, South West of France. The original farmhouse is close to 150 years old and enjoys the title of ‘highest house in the commune’ although much of the Charente is flat!
We have carefully restored the attached barn to create a modern, warm and spacious dortoir (a room for sleeping), without losing the stunning features typical of a Charentais farm. The dortoir is equipped with 8 built-in cabin beds with extra wide, memory foam mattresses and 4 season quilts. Each bed has a privacy curtain, reading light, UK plug adapter, hooks, a hanging rail and cupboard space for belongings.
The heated spacious bathroom includes disabled access wet room and a second separate shower room, toilets and sinks. The additional dry area provides dressing and changing space, sink for tooth brushing and shaving and a large mirror with electric socket and hair-dryer. All bedding, dressing gowns, towels, slippers, toiletries, fleeces and blankets are provided.

What are our meal choices?
Our meals are freshly prepared each day. We provide a vegetarian, wholefood menu and do not use pre-prepared, convenience foods or foods with additives. Where possible we source local ingredients and in the summer we supply our own vegetables and herbs from the allotment.
We provide a fridge and freezer for guest food and drink storage and summer kitchen which is open day and night for making tea, coffee, soup and snacks. We don’t provide alcohol, you can purchase wine and beer at our local supermarket, just 1km away.
During the warmer months, the outside veranda is a delightful social area for eating. We have additional eating areas in the shade, under the Horse Chestnut tree or the orchard. A favourite with our guests is on our glorious West facing, Sunset Patio for evening dinner.
We have a covered, outdoor kitchen with oven, microwave, fridge and large dining table. We have a barbeque and pizza oven with plentiful seating. In winter, the dining room provides a comfortable space to relax where visitors can enjoy books, games, comfy chairs and Wi-Fi.

What we offer
A continental breakfast is served daily and includes coffee, tea, fruit juices, warm croissants, brioche or toast, honey and jam, fruit, yoghurts and cereals (varied daily). In the winter, we make porridge and hot chocolate for a special treat!
A simple lunch of local French cheeses, fruit and breads and soup will be served at lunchtime, with a hot French speciality served for the last lunch, for a true flavour of France.
In the early evening we get together and prepare our meal. We will cook a delicious, 2 course vegetarian ‘Plat de Jour’ (Dish of the Day). Getting together and sharing the dinner preparation is such a great way to wind down after the hard work of the day!
We can accommodate a vegan diet and cater for some allergies and intolerances. If you have a very limited diet, either through choice or health reasons, we will do our best to accommodate you, but we are unable to cook separate meals. You are welcome to buy and prepare your own food to supplement the meals on offer.
